Three key points:
Building resiliency in the ecosystem. National resilience depends on a commercialization pipeline, not just breakthrough science. Federal labs produce transformative technology every year, but most of it never reaches the field because the transition process is fragmented. Closing the structural gaps between lab, entrepreneur, capital, and customer is how we build an innovation base that can surge when defense and energy demands spike.
Public-private collaboration as the transition engine. Lessons from a decade operating programs across the Army, Navy, DARPA, DOE, NASA, and DHS, alongside primes like Northrop Grumman and BAE Systems: what actually moves dual-use technology from federal R&D into programs of record and commercial markets, and where government and industry each have to show up.
Energy innovation at the speed of demand. The convergence of defense needs, data center growth, and grid resilience is creating unprecedented pull for deep tech energy solutions. How venture creation around national lab IP (DOE, Sandia, NREL and others) can deliver fireproof batteries, advanced power infrastructure, and climate technologies fast enough to matter.
